Night Essay

In the Holocaust memoir "Night" by Elie Wiesel, three events that impacted me emotionally were: Elie being split from his mother and sister, the first night in Auschwitz, and the hanging of the pipel. The writer uses a range of language techniques to describe his experience in all of these situations. His purpose in writing this memoir was to get people to realise what happened in the Holocaust and immortalise it so it never happens again.

One event that impacted me emotionally was Elie being split from his mother and sister. This happened when they arrived at Auschwitz. The author uses the technique of first person narration when he writes "I did not know that this was the moment in time and space when I was leaving my mother and Tzipora forever." The use of the first person pronoun "I" helps us understand that this was a real event that happened to Elie Wiesel. This made me feel extremely sad because I can't understand how people could split up a family like that. The author made me realise that millions of Jewish family's were torn apart by the Nazis in concentration camps.

Another event that impacted me emotionally was the Elie's first night in Auschwitz and the prose poem where he repeats the words "Never shall I forget" while describing the sights, smells, and sounds from his first night in Auschwitz. "Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed." The author uses the language technique of repetition to emphasise that he will never forget what he saw. This made me feel sad and angry as I believe that no one should never see horrors like that. The author made me realise the atrocities committed inside the walls of concentration camps.

The last event I will be writing about that impacted me emotionally is the hanging of the pipel. When the author writes about this he puts to use the adverb of still in the sentence "but the third rope was still moving, the child, too light, was still breathing." When the author wrote this I was horrified at the cruelty of the SS and sad for the child, trapped between life and death, slowly inching closer to the latter. When I read this I realised the horrible things the SS would do to put fear into the hearts of the imprisoned.

Elie Wiesel used techniques such as first person narration, repetition, and the use of adverbs to describe being split from his sister and mother, his first night in Auschwitz, and the hanging of the pipel. Reading about his experiences made me feel extremely sad, angry, and horrified at the terrible crimes committed in the concentration camps of Nazi occupied territory. The author made me realise that millions of Jewish family's were torn apart by the Nazis and the horrible fear tactics that they used. In my opinion, the events of the Holocaust should be immortalised forever so nothing like this happens again.

The Jewish People and the Jewish Religion

We watched two videos about Judaism (the Jewish Religion) and the Jewish people. Some things I found out were that the Jewish people are not a race but a religion.

One thing I thought was interesting was there is a old and a new bible

I would like to find out more about the differences between the two.
